A better backbone for your home?

In the last post we discussed why you need wire in your home instead of relying on Wi-fi. Lets discuss which products will use this wire.

Quick review:

Installing copper and fiber optic wires while the walls are open can save you substantial money. The cost of the networking gear for fiber is still quite pricey, but at least you’ll have the cable in the walls when the price of this home equipment starts to drop in 2020. The other benefit of fiber optic cabling in your home is that you won’t need separate wiring for your Internet signals. HDMI video and Internet will all be able to run on the same wiring.

There are many devices that rely upon the Internet or your home/Local Area Network (LAN). These devices will be much more reliable on the wired network:

·      Desktop and laptop computers
·      Printer and scanners
·      Streaming video (ie Roku, AppleTV, FireTV, SmartTV’s, etc)
·      Streaming Audio (Sonos, Heos, etc)
·      New wave of home appliances
·      Lighting control systems (Lutron Caseta/RadioRa2, Phillips, etc)
·      Use the wiring to add additional Wi-fi access points and increase the signal in your home for wireless devices
·      The wire can create a USB wall plate for charging electronics, installing a USB light fixture or small cooling fan
·      (Future) As most LED lights run at 12 or 24 volt, the Cat5/Cat6 wires can be used for running electricity directly from your home solar panels to the USB plate location (Still charge your devices if the electrical grid fails)
·      (Future) The new 5G cellular service will require many small repeaters in your home or office

As you can see, the use of these low voltage wires is endless so adding as many Cat5/Cat6 locations as you can will increase the efficiency of your homes power consumption but will also provide for a better entertainment experience.

This wallplate can be used to charge 2 USB devices and also carry an Internet/Network signal for your computer, printer, etc. on one Cat6 wire
